Costa del Sol

The multi-faceted region of Andalusia and the Costa del Sol lies at Europe’s southernmost point where Europe and Africa almost touch.

The beautiful landscape, the excellent climate and the quality of living make this area the last paradise of Europe, the Costa del Sol is now firmly established as the California of Europe.

The Costa del Sol is an area in the south of Spain that benefits from exceptionally good Mediterranean weather, with average summer temperatures exceeding 25 degrees. The coastline, full of natural splendour, extends over 161 kilometres and its various beaches range from huge expanses of sand to hidden bays with secluded beaches.

With an average of more than three hundred cloudless days a year and 3000 hours of sun a year,  there is endless time to enjoy the beaches during the summer. The sun coast offers many beaches, and all of them are of a high standard and have extensive services.

The proximity of  a very varied countryside - mountains, valleys full of  orchards and the sea - is undoubtedly one of the main attractions of this coast, which has all the attractive features of the Mediterranean scenery and culture. Over the last few years residential tourism has become more and more popular and increasing numbers of tourists.

The immigration of residents, particularly from Northern Europe, that appreciate the quality of life in this beautiful region has increased continuously over the last years. They find their new home in quiet  country houses, apartment complexes or exclusive urbanizations.

The traditional elements that have benefited the typical tourist over the last four decades have also to some extent caused an increase in the amount of people that come to the Costa del Sol to play Golf. The climate and the long hours of sunshine provide a perfect opportunity to practice this sport and each year the clubs and courses are visited by an ever increasing number of enthusiasts and professionals. The long hours of sunshine that the Costa del Sol receives has established the region as firm favourite amongst golf aficionados.

All these factors contributed to the decision to hold various European PGA tournaments in the Costa del Sol. Grounds and facilities are kept in immaculate condition throughout the whole year and are unaffected by the harsh northern continental winter. A club in this area was the first one in Europe to be permitted to hold the Ryder Cup outside of the UK.

Marbella is the most famous town on the Costa del Sol; the meeting point and the permanent or sporadic residence of the popular 'Jet Set', which fills so many pages in society magazines.

One of the particular aspects which has made Marbella so popular is its cosmopolitan nature. Marbella is home for tens of thousands of people from every corner of the world, for a temporary stay or the entire year. It is precisely this marvelous mixture of cultures, traditions, languages and professions that creates the real magic of Marbella: a year-round international resort city virtually unique in Europe. This uniqueness of course has a positive influence on the property market in the sense that quality attracts more quality, and any market fluctuations are therefore likely to be less significant in Marbella than in other.

When you think of Sotogrande, you instantly think of Polo. However, golf and yachts are also an integral part of the atmosphere of the area. The Ryder Cup was held here two years ago and  the first World Golf Championship, with the world’s best players competing for the highest prize money ever seen, will take place on the Valderrama golf course, ranked Number One in Europe.

However, there is only one event that truly draws spectators from all over the world in their thousands every August, International Polo!   

Rural tourism has experienced extraordinary growth in recent years,

 The area of Málaga, which the Costa del Sol belongs to, has a natural surrounding of such great richness and variety also has the splendid diversity of wetland zones, mountain regions and coastal biotopes.

The whitewashed villages of Costa del Sol are impressive historical monuments in themselves.

The international airports of Málaga and Sevilla and the airports of Almería, Jerez, Granada and Córdoba complete the connection of Andalusia to the most important cities in Spain, Europe and all over the  world.

 With London just two hours away, and Berlin three and a half, the location is certainly as central as most major European cities.

Research of  the 'Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development'

– OECD – 

shows that the Southern Spain has the fastest growth rate in population of all European regions.

In the coming ten years millions of Europeans will be moving from Northern Europe to Southern Europe.

( Similar developments took place in California and Florida between 1940 and 1980 ) This is due to their excellent climate and high standard of living.

The trend today goes towards a more flexible working orientated society ; with easy communications in the region, lower airfares and the introduction of the single European currency, movement and integration will become easier. Therefore the great demand for real estate development is already reflected in considerable increase in rural land values within the area, in fact, for the last 6 years an average growth of 40 % per year for rural land only.
